Job Description: Paraeducator
Reports To: School Principal/Director of Special Education or his/her designee
Hampton Elementary School is seeking paraeducators for the 2026–27 school year to support students in grades Pre-K through 6. We are a small school with a nurturing environment, where paraeducators serve a vitally important role in the education and support of our students.
Paraeducators assist teachers, therapists, and other certified professionals in delivering instruction and related services. This position works under the direct supervision of a certified educator or licensed professional.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or passing score on the ParaPro Exam
- Enthusiasm for working with children and supporting learning
Pay:
$16.94 – $20.00 per hour
Knowledge, Skills, Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate, confidential records related to student behavior plans and incidents
- Ability to follow directions and implement lesson plans in a variety of instructional setting
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated work ethic and professionalism
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Capacity to work with a diverse student population
- Knowledge of and ability to support instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and other core subjects
- Implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and IEP-mandated supports under teacher/BCBA supervision
- Collecting behavioral data (ABC charts, frequency/duration logs)
- Communicating with the special education team, BCBA, and related service providers
- De-escalation or behavior intervention training preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, or working on a computer
- Ability to move around the classroom, adjust posture and tone (e.g., bending, kneeling, leaning) to effectively engage with children
- Ability to respond quickly and physically to ensure student safety, including the ability to walk briskly, jog, or run to redirect students who may elope or engage in unsafe behaviors
- Capable of navigating various physical environments (e.g., classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, uneven outdoor terrain)
- Must be able to bend, lift up to 50 pounds, support students during physical transitions, and sustain physical activity throughout the day
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- 4 hours per day - schedule to be determined
