What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Hamilton Madison House?
Position Summary
The Custodian performs cleaning and maintenance functions to maintain a clean and sanitary appearance of the assigned facility. Ensure that the facilities are safe and clean for both older adults and youth participants as well as members of the community. The custodian assists supervisors in identifying and leaks or damages to the facility that require NYCHA repairs and coordinates with NYCHA staff to address repairs. This position reports to the Assistant Executive Director and may take tasks instructions from the Smith NORC Director.
Responsibilities
- Sweep, vacuum, mop all floors including waxing and buffing, as needed
- Daily cleaning and sanitizing all restrooms
- Daily pick up and removal of trash throughout the Center
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and notify supervisor of any orders needed
- Set up and/or move equipment, including gym equipment, furniture when necessary
- Assist with setup of facilities for meetings, conferences, events, etc.
- Use and maintain power equipment and hand tools: high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, etc.
- Keep all building entrances and exits clear of any obstructions and in compliance with the NYC Fire Safety stipulations
- Clean entrance of building as needed
- Remove snow and ice
- Lock and unlock assigned building; secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, and report any unauthorized occupants
- Report emergencies and building leaks when necessary and assist in identifying repairs for NYCHA
- Assist in monitoring front desk and security and cover security lunch period
- Assist in directing clients to appropriate programs/offices
- Assist with opening and closings for election staff and volunteers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- One year of relevant work experience
- Must be flexible with work hours
- Bilingual Cantonese or Spanish Speaking a plus
Compensation: $19.50 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
