What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Access, School Support, and Transition position at Hamilton County Schools?
Overview
- The Director of Access and Transition will be responsible for oversight and management of the Exceptional Education Supports for schools
- Use data to establish a cycle of improvement to increase the number of students with disabilities admitted to and successfully graduating
- Develop a regular cadence of collaboration with School Leaders, IEP teams, and Direct Reports
- Support and model communication with families about IEP's, services, and supports
- Provide oversight of work with students with disabilities in Hamilton County Charter Schools
- Provide and align school facing support at all levels
- Support schools by building capacity in their ability to problem solve around concerns that arise for and with students with disabilities
- Manage and oversee assigned areas for the department to insure compliance and eligibility requirements
- Foster a culture within the district and schools that is inclusive of families by coaching, supporting, and aligning attendance of district support staff at IEP team meetings as needed
- Consistently evaluate the effectiveness of programming and respond when children are not accessing opportunities
- Use data as a driver to eliminate barriers to access for all students; support family and community engagement to provide access
- Quickly respond when students are not learning; act as a problem solver and connector of resources
- Create efficient and effective work streams for teachers to access supports and remove barriers to opportunities for students, specifically in planning for post-secondary options
- Establish a community forward plan to support, train, and inform parents to create a customer-focused climate
- Must maintain awareness and adhere to Exceptional Education Law
- Must cross collaborate and plan with various departments
- Support a teacher professional development plan to support areas of the theory of action and areas defined by the action plan
- Maintains confidentiality and adhere to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law
- Must be a problem solver and provide timely response and solutions for kids
- Must be willing to work across areas with multiple departments
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid, state-issued driver's license.
Responsibilities
- The Director of Access and Transition will be responsible for oversight and management of theTransition Planning (SPP 13) and Post-secondary Options for students
- Assist in programming and developing practices that increase graduation rates for students with disabilities and decreases the dropout rate
- Facilitate access and opportunities for students with IEPs to Future Ready Institutes, CTE and work based learning opportunities
- Use data to establish a cycle of improvement to increase the number of students with disabilities admitted to and successfully completing CTE programs and Future Ready Institutes
- Develop a regular cadence of collaboration with the Director of Future Ready Students and Director of High Schools
- Support and model communication with families about School Choice options and virtual school
- Provide oversight of work with students with disabilities in Hamilton County Charter Schools
- Provide and align school facing support at all levels
- Support schools by building capacity in their ability to problem solve around concerns that arise for and with students with disabilities
- Manage and oversee the Transition Academy and Project Search
- Manage and oversee support process and programs for incarcerated youth and students in foster care
- Foster a culture within the district and schools that is inclusive of families by coaching, supporting, and aligning attendance of district support staff at IEP team meetings as needed
- Consistently evaluate the effectiveness of programming and respond when children are not accessing opportunities
- Use data as a driver to eliminate barriers to access for all students; support family and community engagement to provide access

Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Experience:
- Preferred Master’s degree or higher in Exceptional Education; successful work experience working with Exceptional Education.
- Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in school administration or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
- Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.

- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
- Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.
Compensation:
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
