What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Crew Leader - Construction position at Haltom City?
This position is critical to the success of the Construction Division of Public Works. The person selected will oversee and coordinate the work activities of a maintenance crew while participating in the maintenance functions for the Construction Division. This division provides assistance to other City departments; responds to public inquiries and complaints; and performs other related duties as assigned. The perfect candidate will be one that can not only do the job but can lead and encourage employees to contribute to the completion of assigned projects. You will work hard in this position and leave the City in a better position to provide services to its citizens. Your accomplishments will be visible throughout the City.
This is a busy position that works outdoors during extreme periods of hot and cold weather. Opportunity for training and advancement.
Examples of Duties:
- Coordinates and participates in various Construction projects within the City and may be subject to working on curb, gutter and sidewalk projects; road projects, drainage channels, right-of-ways and storm drains in Haltom City. May also be responsible for laying new infrastructure including water and sewer pipes.
- Processes maintenance work orders; plans and schedules maintenance projects; assigns maintenance tasks to work crew personnel.
- Monitors and ensures the timely and satisfactory completion of all scheduled and emergency maintenance repairs.
- Installs and/or performs repairs to roadways, underground drainage systems, water and sewer lines, and/or other related equipment.
- Participates in trimming trees, and/or other general landscaping duties as assigned.
- Operates various types of equipment including but not limited to backhoes, bulldozers, dump trucks, loaders, excavators, and forklifts.
- Assists in ensuring departmental equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
- Provides assistance to other Public Works divisions and/or City departments as required.
- Responds to public inquiries regarding Public Works policies and projects; address complaints.
- Coordinates and/or meets with vendors regarding the ordering of parts and supplies; assists in writing equipment specifications as required.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of departmental records and reports; maintains compliance with applicable regulatory reporting requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Typical Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and three years' experience supervising public works maintenance crew activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Class C Water Distribution License or a Class II Wastewater Collection License is required. Must possess a valid Class A Texas Driver's License.
