What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Handler position at HALO No-Kill Rescue?
H.A.L.O. Rescue is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and experienced individual to join our team as a Full-Time Dog Handler. This is a hands-on role that requires consistency, accountability, and a strong work ethic. While a passion for animals is important, this position is best suited for someone who understands the realities of shelter work and is prepared to work hard in a physically and mentally demanding environment.
Schedule:
Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
Shifts are 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, depending on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely handle dogs of all sizes, strengths, and temperaments using proper, positive handling techniques
- Provide daily exercise, enrichment, and kennel care in accordance with shelter protocols
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels and common areas, including routine sanitation and waste management
- Assist with the adoption process by facilitating safe introductions and helping guide appropriate matches
- Administer medications and assist with basic medical care, including safely restraining animals when needed
What This Role Requires:
- A strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding and sometimes unpleasant tasks
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, loud, and occasionally high-stress environment
- The ability to stay composed and make good decisions when handling animals of varying behaviors
- Physical capability to bend, kneel, lift (up to 50 lbs), and remain active throughout the shift
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work as part of a team
- Prior experience in animal handling or shelter work is strongly preferred
Compensation: Starting pay is $14.50 – $16/hour, based on experience.
