SUMMARY STATEMENT
The part-time Health Information Management instructor position is responsible for teaching within the College’s Health Information Management program curricula. The instructor will also procure material and instructional resources, and work with the Health Information Management program coordinator, in the ongoing development, evaluation, and revision of the Health Information Management curricula.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must hold a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential. Master’s degree in Health Information Management or a closely related field required from a regionally accredited institution. At least 3-5 years teaching experience online and/or face-to-face and current concept knowledge relative to subjects teaching and a background in education theory and methodology, and current concept knowledge relative to subjects teaching. Three or more years of experience in the healthcare industry is required.
Skills And Abilities
Strong organizational and writing skills; attention to detail, with excellent advising/counseling skills. Knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to establish good working relationships with staff, students, and the community. Ability to organize and prioritize work, makes decisions independently, and attends to details.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- The part-time Instructor reports directly to the Director of Health Sciences. Works collaboratively with the Health Information Management program coordinator.
- Provides guidance to students enrolled in the Health Information Management and Electronic Health Records programs.
- The Instructor collaborates most closely with the Director of Health Sciences, Health Science Administrative Office Associate, Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator Health Information Management Program, Clinical Contract Coordinator, Academic Advisement, and the Healthcare Community.
- Provide course/lab instruction and direction to students in accordance with program objectives
- If designated as the lead faculty for a course, the instructor is expected to assess learning outcomes at the course, and discipline levels and assist the program coordinator with assessment of the learning outcomes at the program, and college levels.
- The instructor is expected to participate in other college-related activities and must be willing to be involved in community related-activities (e.g., working with the Health Information Management advisory board, participating in healthcare community activities).
- Student Advocacy: the faculty member should be committed to student learning and success and available to help students as needed to maximize student success and retention.
- Curriculum Development: the faculty member must be current in the field of their instruction and transfer that knowledge to students in course content and teaching delivery, as well as continuous curriculum revisions, enhancements, and deletions to keep current with standards.
- Attend meetings as planned by the Health Information Management Program Coordinator.
- Attend continuing education functions to stay current with educational and technological advancements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
