Description:
CDL drivers at Hagar Enterprises, Inc. are responsible for all aspects of truck operations, including the movement of equipment with a trailer and hauling materials such as asphalt, gravel, stone, and more. A valid CDL license is required for this position. Due to the nature of the job, earlier start times may be necessary to allow for equipment movement prior to the arrival of the crew on-site. While the job will primarily involve operating the truck, drivers will also assist in placing materials as needed in various projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Focus
• Report directly to the foreman or supervisor.
• Responsible for checking all equipment and trucks operated, including inspecting fluids, wear and tear, lights, etc.
• Keep proper records of all materials moved, sold, or distributed (record slips will be provided).
• Perform regular preventative maintenance on all trucks and equipment operated, with records kept of all maintenance performed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the truck and equipment, both inside and outside.
• Report any maintenance or safety issues with equipment or job conditions to the safety officer or foreman.
Secondary Focus
• Conduct truck checks at the start of a shift, including inspecting fluids, mechanics (e.g., lights), tools, and equipment assigned to the truck.
• Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment and trucks.
• Assist with general maintenance of company-owned buildings and equipment.
• Help the mechanic with more in-depth repairs when necessary.
• Provide labor support on the job site, including tasks like shoveling, raking, and wheel barreling.
• Assist in the installation of asphalt, gravel, and other materials.
• Operate basic equipment such as plate compactors, saws, and shop equipment for general maintenance or repairs.
• Lift and carry objects weighing over 40 pounds, as well as transport heavy objects such as buckets of paint or boxes of materials.
• Mix coatings and assist with painting tasks.
• Operate striping equipment and sealcoating units.
• Exposure to petroleum products, cleaning solvents, and hot asphalt.
• Work may involve performing duties at night on a regular or irregular basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must maintain a valid and unexpired Maine CDL license.
• Ability to pass a drug screening test as required by federal, state, or local regulations.
• Ability to work effectively with others as a member of a team.
• Ability to take direction from others and execute tasks efficiently.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy loads, climb ladders, and perform manual labor tasks.
• Strong safety consciousness.
Work Conditions / Physical Demands:
• Frequent sitting while driving construction vehicles.
• Occasional standing and walking with freedom of movement, especially when loading and unloading construction materials in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. overhead.
• Work will occur outdoors in varying weather conditions such as rain, ice, snow, and heat.
• Flexibility to work long hours, nights, and weekends during the construction and plowing seasons.
• Regular physical activity, including walking, climbing, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stooping.
• Work environment includes exposure to construction site hazards such as dust, vehicle traffic, elevated noise levels, and other site-specific risks.
