Haddonfield Friends School seeks a passionate, creative, and student-centered Spanish teacher to inspire a love of language and culture in students from Kindergarten through Grade 8. Responsibilities
- Teach Spanish to students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 using a proficiency-based, communicative approach.
- Conduct instruction primarily in Spanish, providing students with rich, comprehensible target-language input and meaningful opportunities for communication.
- Design engaging lessons that develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through authentic language use across all grade levels.
- Prepare middle school students with the skills required for continued high school Spanish learning: vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, writing
- Integrate cultural exploration and global perspectives throughout the curriculum.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the developmental needs, learning profiles, and language proficiency levels of diverse learners.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and inform instruction.
- Foster a classroom environment where students feel safe taking risks and developing confidence as language learners.
- Build strong, caring relationships with students and support their academic, social, and emotional development.
- Encourage student voice, creativity, collaboration, and self-reflection.
- Support students in developing resilience, empathy, and a growth mindset.
- Support students in becoming thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged members of their local and global communities.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and learning experiences.
- Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth related to language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, and best practices in education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, World Languages, or related foreign language field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Experience teaching Spanish to elementary and/or middle school students.
- Knowledge of second-language acquisition and proficiency-based instructional practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and culturally responsive teaching.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
