What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Interior Designer, Residential position at Hacin?
About Hacin
Hacin is an award-winning, interdisciplinary design studio located in Boston's South End. Our team of design professionals has built a diverse portfolio of projects that have received regional, national, and international recognition. We specialize in architecture, interior design, and visual identity across a range of scales and project types, including high-end residential, multi-family housing, workplace, and hospitality.
We believe exceptional design begins with curiosity and conceptual thinking and is realized through collaboration, technical rigor, thoughtful execution, and craftsmanship. Every project reflects our commitment to design excellence and outstanding client service.
The Role
We're looking for a Residential Interior Designer to lead the interior design of residential projects, working closely with our architecture teams and directly with clients. This role suits a designer with a strong foundation in high-end residential interiors who is able to take ownership of projects — from concept development and FF&E specification through procurement and installation. We are open to a range of experience from 6 years and up – most importantly, a strong fit for the design culture in the office and a collaborative spirit.
What You'll Do
• Lead the interior design scope of small, medium, or large residential projects — depending on experience level — from concept through execution
• Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, understanding their goals and translating them into design direction for the project team
• Guide and/or lead the selection of furniture, decorative lighting, soft goods, etc. appropriate to each project's scale, concept, and budget
• Lead the production of project documents: furniture plans, detail drawings, presentation boards, budgets, visual specifications, and construction documents
• Maintain project profitability and schedule; generate and manage client proposals, contracts, budgets, workplans, and cashflow projections
• Work with Project Coordinators to manage vendors and subcontractors; review submittals and related documentation
• Discover and maintain relationships with vendor representatives, showrooms, brands, makers, and artisans, sharing resources with the broader team
• (Senior-level candidates) Take on a broader leadership role — mentoring project staff, contributing to design standards, and supporting business development through client relationships and new leads
What We're Looking For
• Professional degree from an accredited institution
• A proven record of design excellence through conceptually driven FF&E selections appropriate for high-end clients
• Demonstrated experience in a client-facing role, with strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
• Strong command of the design and realization process, from concept through installation
• Familiarity with high-end interiors vendors and resources
• Excellent collaboration, organization and project management skills
• A curious and creative individual with your own design point of view
