THE POSITION
Under general supervision of certificated staff, performs paraprofessional rehabilitation activities in the conducting of vocational and rehabilitation training procedures with disabled and disadvantaged students or adults.
CURRENT OPENINGS: Three full time positions (12 months, 35 hours per week) and also substitute opportunities. Salary placement will be on Range 15 of the CSEA Salary Schedule "B." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($20.77 per hour) of this salary range.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees in this classification work either inside or outside, with exposure to minor contagious illnesses (colds, flu, etc.), in direct contact with the public, students, and District staff, may operate motorized vehicle equipment, use a telephone, in temperature changes, exposed to loud noises, sharp objects, machinery with moving parts, high volume of work and tight deadlines, continuously changing priorities, continuous interruptions, and without guidance from supervisor.Experience:

- Assist clients in job duty preparation.
- Assist clients in rehabilitation for employment preparation.
- Assists in the management and shaping of client behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies.
- Monitors or checks assigned areas to assist in enforcing safety limits and provides guidance to clients as needed.
- Tutors clients on an individual or group basis.
- May work assignments within various training or rehabilitation locations in outlying areas to include cafeteria sites which require instruction and participation in the preparation and service of food and related activities.
- Assists workshop, cafeteria, work evaluation, and other rehabilitation personnel with duties such as the implementation of contracts and/or production needs including production reporting, quality control, production evaluation, inspection, or work simplification.
- May be assigned primary responsibility when transporting clients to outlying sites to accomplish contract work such as landscape gardening, building maintenance, or housekeeping instruction and production.
- Maintaining a safe, neat, orderly, and organized work environment.
- Corrects and organizes work samples.
- Assists in the rehabilitation/evaluation process by behavioral reporting and keeping daily records.
- May assist in landscape gardening and building maintenance instruction.
- May be required to operate a motor vehicle.
- Performs other related duties as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Experience in a special education program
- Experience working with disabled or disadvantaged personnel
- Experience with a rehabilitation agency focusing on the disabled population
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License and automobile.
- Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle which meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and continue to maintain insurability. For those positions which require driving District vehicles, incumbents must be able to be insured, and continue to be insured, by the District's liability insurance carrier.
- Positions within this classification that require driving a District vehicle are subject to participation in the District's drug testing procedures.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.
- General needs and behavior of disabled and disadvantaged clients, and an understanding of the rehabilitation process;
