THE POSITION
Under general supervision of an administrator, performs a variety of instructional and routine clerical duties designed to free the instructor from routine work related to the programs; converses with students in a specified language other than English and translates into English for instructional personnel.
CURRENT OPENING: There are currently multiple part-time openings (10 months, 10 to 30 hours per week). The current opening requires the ability to be bilingual and biliterate in SPANISH or MANDARIN. However, the same list may be used to fill additional or future vacancies for six months. Salary placement will be on Range 14 of the CSEA Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($20.75 per hour) of this salary range.
SECOND LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: Positions in this classification require the ability to speak, read, and write a second language in addition to English, and require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277).

- Tutors individuals in small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
- Utilizes English and a specified language other than English to assist certificated instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
- Monitors and assists students through drill, practice, and study activities following the presentation of instructional concepts by certificated instructional personnel.
- Assists in maintaining a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment.
- Assists in the development of a variety of instructional materials for use with individual and small groups of students.
- Administers basic first aid.
- Operates a variety of instructional media, office machines, and equipment.
- Maintains student records and files.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
- Translates orally or in writing as needed.
- Monitors resource center and assists students in the utilization of center material and equipment.
- Distributes and maintains an inventory of textbooks, supplies, and equipment.
- Collects, assembles, catalogs, and distributes resource materials.
- May assist in parent conferences
- Attends meetings or workshops.
- May assist instructor in producing and correcting homework assignments and bulletin board preparation.
- Performs other related duties as directed.

- A minimum of 48 semester or 72 quarter units of college coursework.
- An Associate's or higher degree.
- Pass an assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching, reading, writing and mathematics.
- Public education goals and objectives.
- First aid.
- Communicate effectively by understanding, speaking, reading, and writing English and a specified language other than English.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students.
- Perform routine clerical work.
- Make simple arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy.
- Operate a typewriter and other office equipment after training.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
