Position Summary
The Receiving Manager is responsible for overseeing donation intake, donation evaluation, pricing, and also the loading of sold merchandise into customers’ vehicles. This role ensures that donated goods are processed efficiently, priced appropriately to maximize revenue, and aligned with the organization’s mission. The manager prioritizes great relationships with the donors and the customers. The manager directly supervises the Receiving staff and volunteers, maintains quality control, trains volunteers for safety at all times,, and supports a safe, organized, and donor-friendly environment.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Intake Operations
- Manage daily receiving operations, including donation drop-offs and unloading box trucks
- Ensure timely unloading, inspection, and processing of donated items
- Maintain organized intake and processing areas
- Monitor workflow to ensure efficiency and productivity goals are met
Pricing & Merchandising
- Establish and implement pricing strategies based on condition, market demand, and store guidelines
- Train staff on consistent and accurate pricing practices
- Ensure high-quality, sellable items are prioritized for the sales floor
- Collaborate with sales floor team to optimize product placement and turnover
Staff Supervision & Development
- Supervise, train, and schedule receiving staff and volunteers
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and support
- Promote a positive, mission-driven team culture
- Ensure staff adherence to policies, procedures, and safety standards
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety procedures related to lifting, equipment use, and hazardous materials
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and local regulations
- Conduct regular safety checks in receiving and processing areas
Inventory & Reporting
- Track incoming donations and key performance metrics
- Assist in reporting revenue trends and pricing effectiveness
- Identify opportunities to improve donation value and operational efficiency
Qualifications
Required:
- 2–4 years of supervisory or management experience (retail, warehouse, or logistics preferred)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Have a basic knowledge of product valuation and willing to learn the details
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (50 lbs) and work in a physically active environment
Preferred:
- Experience in resale, thrift, or nonprofit retail environments
- Knowledge of furniture, appliances, building materials, or home goods pricing
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)

The work environment includes exposure to extreme or varying weather conditions particularly heat, cold, rain, snow or high winds.
