ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION 

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity Springfield (HFHS) brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. 


PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB 

The Director of Strategic Partnerships works closely with the Executive Director and
Board of Directors as a part of the senior leadership team to secure the resources necessary to fulfill Habitat for Humanity Springfield’s mission. This role oversees all fundraising, grant writing, events planning, and other development work of HFHS – strategically coordinating it with the donations, outreach, and community engagement initiatives managed by the ReStore, Housing, and Marketing & Communications teams – to maximize the efficiency and efficacy of all donations and revenue generating relationships organization-wide. The Director of Strategic Partnerships is responsible for broadening and strengthening outside relationships by soliciting, cultivating, and nurturing all forms of financial support for HFHS,
with a primary focus on stewarding major donors and initiating productive partnerships with corporations, small businesses, civic groups, government entities, and faith institutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS

Development and Fundraising Team Leadership & Administration

  • Develop a comprehensive annual fundraising plan and oversee its implementation.
  • Ensure that HFHS development and fundraising work is compliant with all governing policies and law and follows best practices for philanthropic giving and donor privacy. 
  • Cultivate and steward both prospective and existing donor relationships, and promote donor engagement through consistent, personalized, and compelling relationship building communication and correspondence. 
  • Supervise and lead the development team staff including goal setting, customized professional development, mentoring/coaching, and evaluating performance to ensure team members meet both professional and departmental financial goals. 
  • Work with the Grants Officer to research, craft, and submit grant applications and assist with tracking, compliance, and reporting requirements as needed. 
  • Oversee organization-wide gift processing procedures and CRM relationship tracking utilization to ensure records are up-to-date and include all forms of organizational collaboration and interaction with donors, volunteers, and community partners so that it can be reliably used to guide informed stewardship communications and to prepare statistics and reports that accurately evaluate the effectiveness of cultivation, relationship-building, and solicitation strategies. 
  • Work with the HFHS team, in accordance with the stewardship plan, to ensure timely, meaningful documentation and donor recognition for gifts made to the organization. 
  • Develop robust annual, project specific, and legacy giving programs, building relationships with a pipeline of individual donors cultivated to become major donors. 
  • Personally maintain a major donor portfolio consisting of at least 25 prospects.
  • Direct the planning and coordination of Tool Belts and Bow Ties, Women Build, and all other HFHS fundraising events with HFHS staff, vendors, exhibitors, donors, and stakeholders. Event management may include, but is not limited to, scouting locations, securing sponsorships, managing contractors, assisting with marketing and promotion, coordinating specialty builds, booking vendors, and leading set up, tear down, post-event follow-up reporting, and thank you coordination.
  • Prepare and maintain event budgets and post-event audits to evaluate ROI.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing/Communication/Events team and/or willing community partners, develop additional events and fundraising initiatives designed to raise additional revenue without major expenses or staff time. 


Partnership Initiation, Stewardship, & Navigation

  • Serve as the primary relationship scout and steward for all potentially revenue generating partnerships, collaborations, and stakeholder alliances.
  • Be an ambassador for Habitat’s mission by supporting all efforts to establish and maintain extraordinary relationships with corporations, small businesses, civic groups, government entities, faith institutions, donors, and donor groups.
  • Seek out new partnerships and connections in every meeting, event, and interaction.
  • Coordinate relationships made through HFHS development and fundraising team efforts with those cultivated by other HFHS departments and leaders.
  • Manage all ground breaking ceremonies, kickoffs, and home dedications.
  • Attend community gatherings, coalition and network building events, and relevant legislative and governmental meetings to represent HFHS’s mission and priorities.
  • Work closely with senior HFHS leadership to ensure that community engagement and audience expansion programming, volunteer recruitment, and outreach strategies are also designed to enhance funding and donor development goals. 


Executive Leadership Support 

  • Serve as a valuable member of the Executive Director’s senior leadership team by providing planning, policy, personnel, and board management support.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director and senior leadership team regarding annual operational and capital budget planning, budget preparation, and budget monitoring. 
  • Work with the Finance Department to ensure accuracy and compliance in tracking, reconciliation, and expenditure of funds provided by restricted grants and donations. 
  • Prepare reports and provide information as needed for the annual audit.
  • Contribute to the strategic plan and its implementation across the organization.
  • Attend Board, committee, and other HFHS departmental meetings as needed.
  • Provide fundraising reports and prospect research upon request for the Executive Director, the senior leadership team, and the Board of Directors. 
  • Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to guide their efforts to cultivate and secure major gifts, planned giving, and major sponsors for Habitat.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Marketing & Communications team, and other senior leadership to publicize grant awards, recognize major donors, and creatively promote HFHS’s revenue generating events, partnerships, and initiatives.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

  • At least 5-8 years fundraising leadership experience with progressively higher levels of responsibility in resource development, fundraising, non-profit management, public relations, institutional advancement, sales, marketing, or related field.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising – direct experience securing grants, organizing profitable fundraising events, and soliciting major and planned gifts.
  • Experience supervising and evaluating employees and contractors.
  • Experience utilizing Donor Management Software and/or CRM systems for gift and donor relationship tracking. 
  • Experience with Google Drive, Google Sheets, Asana, Slack, and MS Office preferred.
  • Experience with budget creation, tracking, and advanced spreadsheet sorting for financial reporting, projection, and documentation purposes. 
  • Experience working with and/or serving on a non-profit Board.
  • Demonstrated public relations and partnership or coalition building skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of area community events resources and funding prospects preferred.

Working Conditions 

The work environment is usually a well-lighted, environmentally controlled indoor office environment with a moderate level of noise. Periodic travel to work sites, events, donor and committee meetings, or Board meeting locations required.
