Description
The primary purpose of the Apprentice is to support the Master Plumber and the organization with installing and maintaining plumbing lines and fixtures within in Habitat Omaha’s residential construction both new and renovations as well as Habitat homes under warranty. Secondary purpose is to provide maintenance of the organizations plumbing infrastructure. This position is responsible for installing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and appliances for water systems such as water heaters, showers, sinks and toilets and providing service, troubleshooting malfunctions and repairs for those items. The position reports to the Master Plumber.

What You’ll Do
Support Plumbing Installation & Repairs
- Assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining water systems including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, sinks, showers, and toilets.
- Support plumbing work across new residential construction, renovations, and warranty service calls.
- Analyze, diagnose, and help troubleshoot plumbing malfunctions.
Learn the Plumbing Trade
- Read and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
- Operate and maintain plumbing tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow oral and written instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- The plumber Apprentice I will gain experience installing sewer and water lines.
Maintain Quality & Safety
- Follow all safety requirements, policies, and safe work practices.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and organized condition.
- Support preventative maintenance of plumbing infrastructure.
Collaborate & Contribute
- Build positive, cooperative relationships with construction staff and team members.
- Work both independently and as part of a team under the guidance of the Master Plumber.
- Demonstrate reliability by arriving on time and prepared for each workday.

What You Bring
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Enrollment in a recognized apprenticeship program (or willingness to pursue).
- Basic knowledge of plumbing methods, materials, tools, and safety practices preferred.
Skills & Strengths
- Ability to read a tape measure, level, and follow instructions.
- Good communication skills and adaptability to changing work conditions.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
- Candidate must be insurable by HFHO’s insurance provider.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work with tools throughout the day.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work near heavy machinery, tools, and equipment in potentially loud environments.
- The employee must be comfortable working underground in trenches.
