Cashier & Sales Operations — Primary Responsibility
- Operate the cash register accurately and efficiently as the primary point-of-sale associate, processing all types of transactions including cash, credit, and debit.
- At every transaction, invite customers to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar to benefit Habitat for Humanity’s homebuilding mission — confidently, warmly, and consistently.
- Maintain a friendly, welcoming presence at the register that encourages customer engagement and reflects Habitat’s values.
- Ensure correct pricing, accurate change, and adherence to all cash handling and closing procedures.
- Stay informed about current store promotions, sales events, and pricing to assist customers at the register.
- Answer customer questions about merchandise, pricing, and Habitat for Humanity’s mission.
- Relay customer concerns or feedback regarding merchandise or service to the ReStore Manager or Assistant Manager promptly.
- Assist with preparing bank deposits in accordance with ReStore procedures.
- Assist with pricing merchandise for the sales floor, applying established pricing procedures accurately.
- Help with floor moves, furniture arrangement, and merchandise displays to maximize sales and maintain an inviting store environment.
- Maintain knowledge of product locations and pricing throughout the store to assist customers effectively.
- Research fair market values of unique or new items and provide pricing recommendations to management.
- Assist customers with loading large sold items, including furniture, appliances, and building materials, into their vehicles.
- Help unload merchandise from delivery trucks and move donations from the receiving area to the sales floor.
- Graciously accept drop-off donations and assist donors with unloading items from vehicles.
- Provide donation receipts and review donation forms for completeness before donors leave.
- Work collaboratively to maintain store safety, cleanliness, and organization throughout the sales floor, warehouse, and receiving area.
- Adhere to all ReStore safety regulations and policies.
- Participate actively as a team member across all areas of store operations as directed.
- Carry out directions from the VP of ReStore, ReStore Manager, Assistant Manager, and Director of ReStore Impact & Operations.
- Collaborate with volunteers, donors, and staff to create a positive and meaningful experience.
- Demonstrate professionalism and a positive demeanor in all interactions, including challenging situations, upholding the values of Habitat for Humanity.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum one (1) year of retail cashier experience preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred; minimum of one (1) year preferred.
- Experience in thrift, resale, or donation-based retail a plus.
- Experience with merchandising and product display a plus.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, approachable demeanor at the register.
- Comfortable and confident asking customers to round up or make a donation at checkout — a mission-critical part of this role.
- Strong math skills and attention to detail for accurate cash handling, pricing, and deposit preparation.
- Sales orientation with the ability to promote merchandise and engage customers authentically.
- Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds with professionalism and respect.
- Effective verbal communication skills; ability to communicate clearly with customers, donors, volunteers, and staff.
- Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and point-of-sale systems; basic typing skills and clear handwriting.
- Neat, clean, and professional appearance.
- Understanding and appreciation of the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Must be available to work Monday through Saturday; all ReStore locations are closed on Sundays.
- Flexibility to work overtime and holidays as required based on operational needs.

- Standard schedule is Tuesday through Saturday; all ReStore locations are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Part-time schedules vary.
- Overtime and holiday work may be required based on operational needs.
