As an integral part of Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley’s Construction and Programs team, the ideal candidate will be responsible for leading, managing and growing the Construction Projects for Habitat for Humanity of the NRV.
Responsibilities:
Pre-Construction Administration
- Develop and implement project plans, schedules, and budgets for construction projects
- Identify, interview, and develop a strong subcontractor trade base.
- Assess and select appropriate building materials and suppliers for individual jobs
- Support partnered critical home repair entities, providing safe and accessible housing upgrades
- Liaise with Vocational Program teams at local high schools and integrate into our project portfolio
- Assist in the management of the building construction internship program with university students
- Liaise with affiliate organizations to identify cost-effective methods of home building and housing improvements
- Work with the executive team and construction committee, when necessary, on joint projects
Site Supervision
- Supervise and direct walking projects under construction daily, and ensure accountability of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Coordinate and encourage volunteers with emphasis on safety, ensure timely material deliveries, record keeping, compliance with building codes, and energy efficiency standards
- Work with the Construction Committee to develop scopes of work, quality standards, project timelines, and trade partner relationships.
- Work with the Construction Program Manager or designee in:
- Establish and maintain a culture of safety
- Hands-on construction team member when required
Operations/Administration
- Complete all administrative tasks related to the construction program
- Know and implement Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) best practices and standards for operation
- Develop and implement a system for materials and asset tracking
- Assist in the solicitation of construction material donations from partner organizations and suppliers
- See that all vehicles and equipment are appropriately maintained
Requirements:
Experience in residential and/or commercial construction, with a strong desire to lead others in the execution of Habitat’s goals and objectives
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
The ability to self-motivate and work with limited supervision, while adhering to Habitat’s standards
Flexible scheduling with occasional volunteer work on Saturdays
Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project Management Software a plus
Can lift 50lbs, stand for long periods of time, maintain a driver's license, and provide own transportation
