Position Summary
H3 Industrial is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fabrication Detailer / Estimator to support our welding, fabrication, and machining operations. This position is responsible for developing and modifying accurate fabrication drawings, performing material take-offs, and assisting in project estimation to ensure our shop and field teams have clear, precise information to build from. The ideal candidate has strong CAD proficiency, an understanding of industrial steel fabrication, and the ability to translate customer specifications into shop-ready drawings and cost estimates.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain 2D and 3D CAD drawings for structural steel, skids, platforms, piping, and custom fabrication projects.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, and models to prepare accurate shop fabrication drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Perform steel and material take-offs to support accurate estimating, quoting, and material procurement.
- Collaborate with project managers, welders, machinists, and fabricators to ensure drawings are practical, efficient, and aligned with shop capabilities.
- Assist with labor and material cost estimating based on drawings, specifications, and past project data.
- Identify and communicate potential design conflicts, fabrication challenges, or cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain organized drawing files, revision histories, and project documentation in accordance with company standards.
- Provide technical support to the fabrication and field teams as needed to ensure accurate execution of drawings.
- Ensure all work meets company, industry, and customer standards for quality and safety.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in drafting, detailing, or estimating within an industrial or fabrication environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
- Strong understanding of fabrication practices, welding symbols, material specifications, and tolerances.
- Proven ability to perform accurate steel take-offs and develop bills of material (BOMs).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Excellent math, geometry, and spatial reasoning skills.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with quoting or estimating industrial fabrication projects preferred.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based, onsite, within the fabrication facility, with regular collaboration in the shop environment.
- May require occasional field visits for measurements, verification, or coordination with customers.
- Exposure to an industrial environment — must follow all PPE and safety protocols.
