Company Description H.O.P.E FL partners with Florida’s Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program to support individuals with disabilities in obtaining and maintaining employment. The organization serves people whose physical or mental disabilities create barriers to work and who need VR assistance to find or keep a job. Many individuals who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for a disability are likely eligible for these services. H.O.P.E FL focuses on employment-related support, guidance, and resources that empower participants to pursue meaningful, sustainable work opportunities.
Role Description The Employment Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in the following Florida counties: Manatee, Collier, Sarasota, Lee, and Charlotte counties. This position supports individuals with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining, and retaining employment by conducting intake assessments, identifying strengths and barriers, and developing individualized employment plans. Daily responsibilities include coaching participants on job readiness skills, assisting with resume and application preparation, and providing interview preparation and practice. Employment specialists reach out to and negotiate with local Florida business owners (or their hiring managers) about hiring individuals with disabilities.
The employment specialist will also help these individuals maintain employment.
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Software skills (word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
- Good organizational skills
- Capable of working independently
- Able to pass a level 2 criminal background check
- Valid Florida driver's license and a reliable vehicle with insurance
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human services, counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
