An award-winning design firm and voted OC’s best place to work for consecutive years, we are a creative powerhouse of architects and designers, collaborators, and communicators—experts in the business of transforming open space into elevated, extraordinary human experiences.

We are seeking a local Design Director who can work from our Newport Beach office in alignment with our hybrid schedule. This role brings strong design leadership across all phases of a project, paired with a solid technical understanding of detailing, specifications, documentation, and project budgeting. The Design Director provides innovative, thoughtful solutions throughout the design process and is responsible for developing the overall concept, researching emerging workplace trends and technologies, reviewing furniture specifications, and overseeing all aspects of a project’s design execution. This role consistently applies our “Looks Great, Works Great, Feels Great” philosophy to every project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design department in developing architectural and interior design solutions from concept through construction documentation
  • Direct the preparation of conceptual designs, space plans, FF&E selection, and client presentations
  • Oversee the concurrent development of multiple interior architecture projects
  • Manage overall project execution, including team coordination, schedules, budgets, fees, and profitability
  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships through effective communication and leadership
  • Produce and present high-quality graphic and written materials, including presentations, correspondence, and marketing support materials
  • Guide and mentor design staff through project supervision, coaching, and training
  • Assist in practice planning, development, and operational improvement initiatives
  • Support business development efforts by maintaining existing client relationships and helping generate new opportunities
  • Advance practice growth by cultivating and maintaining a referral network of clients, brokers, and industry partners
  • Participate in industry networking events, trade shows, award programs, and related activities

Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of the full project lifecycle, including fee management, team leadership, schedules, and budgets
  • Proven experience building and maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented studio environment
  • Strong working knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards
  • Advanced rendering and visual communication skills
  • Experience with business development activities, including lead and opportunity management, proposal development, and contract management
  • Expert-level ability to plan, prepare, lead, and deliver meetings and client presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships successfully
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-driven environment
