Gwynedd Mercy University, a comprehensive independent Catholic University of 2600 students located in Montgomery County Pennsylvania, seeks to fill one (1) full-time nontenure track faculty position for the Graduate Program in Counseling starting in January 2025.

Although the Counseling Program offers online courses with a summer residency, this position is a 12-month faculty appointment with the option for online/remote or on-campus work. Successful candidates will agree to serve as program director for a counseling department with two concentrations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.  We seek faculty colleagues who are flexible, collegial, committed to working in a program that provides high-quality online teaching, and dedicated to upholding Gwynedd Mercy University’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Gwynedd Mercy University values and promotes diversity and inclusion in all aspects of its operations. 

Responsibilities: Assistant professors are responsible for providing teaching and service to the program, the department, the College, the University, and the counseling profession. Faculty teach 24 credits of graduate-level counseling courses in clinical mental health counseling and/or school counseling (with 12 credit hours of release per year for serving as program director).  Other duties include participation in one on-campus student weekend residency per academic year, curriculum and course development, involvement in program quality assurance activities, advising and mentoring of graduate students and assigned adjunct faculty, participation in professional organizations, research, and participation in appropriate program, School and University service activities such as committees and admissions processes.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to highlight experience with developing and delivering online/hybrid courses.  Ability to collaborate with an instructional design team, incorporating principles of understanding design for learning (UDL), and integrating multimedia resources and educational tools to enhance student engagement and retention of course material are all preferred in candidates for the position.

 Candidates must demonstrate experience with teaching and leadership in online counseling programs, quality teaching and service, student and community engagement, a commitment to collaboration, an understanding of the mission and core values of the Sisters of Mercy, and alignment with the counseling department’s mission. Preference will be given to applicants with administrative experience within a counseling program.

Qualifications 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program by December 31, 2024 
  • Qualified to serve as core faculty according to CACREP’s definition in the 2016 Standards 
  • One or more years of experience teaching in an online counseling program 
  • Knowledgeable of CACREP and accreditation processes 
  • Experience and competence in teaching and clinical supervision of counseling graduate students 
  • Professional experience in clinical mental health counseling or school counseling settings 
  • License-eligible as a mental health counselor/professional counselor or certified as a professional school counselor 
  • Demonstrated curriculum development, scholarly agenda, and/or community engagement and collaboration 
  • Commitment to collaborative professional relationships with faculty colleagues 
  • Promise for success in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations, preferably with an emphasis on areas relevant to counseling and diversity.  

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and support diverse faculty and students; 
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across the program and department; 
  • Three years of experience teaching in a fully online counseling program; 
  • Full professional counseling license in state of residence at time of application or apply for full licensure as a mental health counselor within one year of hire; 
  • Sustained engagement with communities that are underrepresented in counseling and mental health care, and demonstrated ability to integrate this experience into program development and teaching; 
  • Record of success in scholarly activities related to counseling
