What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist and Bookkeeper position at GWSI?
You will run our payroll. That is the primary job.
We process weekly payroll for employees across Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, and other locations. You will calculate wages, overtime, commissions, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, and benefit contributions. You will maintain the employee records and time data that feed those calculations. You will handle the tax withholdings, deposits, quarterly filings, and year-end returns so they go out correct and on time. You will reconcile the payroll accounts and catch errors before they reach a paycheck.
Bookkeeping sits next to that work. You will keep the general ledger accurate, reconcile bank and credit card accounts, process vendor invoices and payments, post customer receipts, and support month-end and year-end close. The payroll work is the filter; the bookkeeping is the rest of the role.
Must Have
- Two or more years of hands-on, full-cycle payroll processing (you ran the cycles, calculated the pay, and handled the filings—not only assisted or entered data).
- Direct experience with QuickBooks Payroll.
- Working knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax rules, or a clear track record of learning them quickly.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Excel skills sufficient to reconcile registers and spot discrepancies.
- Ability to meet fixed payroll and filing deadlines with minimal supervision and to handle confidential compensation data.
Preferred
- Experience processing payroll for drivers, warehouse staff, or other hourly multi-state workforces (overtime, per-diem, or similar variables).
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
- More than three years of payroll ownership.
- Prior work in transportation, warehousing, or logistics.
M. Gerace Enterprise / GWSI is an asset-based logistics company. We own the warehouses and the private fleet. The deadlines do not move and the numbers have to be right. If you already do this work and want to own it, please apply.
