Job Description
The Education and Extended Youth Support Advocate (Grade 100D) will work closely with the Case Coordinator Section Manager and Guardians ad Litem/Attorneys to support the educational success and long-term self-sufficiency of foster youth by providing advocacy, guidance, and coordination of services. The Education and Extended Youth Support Advocate is responsible for overseeing the coordination and delivery of educational support for youth in foster care and eventually Juvenile Probation. This role focuses on identifying and addressing educational barriers, facilitating school stability, and supporting youth as they transition into postsecondary education and adulthood. The Education and Extended Youth Support Advocate will collaborate with caregivers, schools, social workers, and community agencies to ensure youths involved with the juvenile court are connected to appropriate academic support, resources, and life skills training. 

Essential Duties
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of school progress, plans and interventions
  • Intervene when educational transitions and/or challenges arise including TIES meetings, enrollment meetings, manifestation determination hearings, and school tribunals
  • Assess each youth's academic history, strengths, and challenges and ensure appropriate educational placements and services
  • Review and develop individual education programs (IEPs) that align with long-term goals
  • Support youth in exploring postsecondary options including college, vocational training, and employment pathways
  • Assist with college applications, financial aid (FAFSA, Chafee Grant), and scholarship processes
  • Coordinate campus tours, college prep workshops, and mentoring opportunities
  • Support development of independent living plans and access to transitional housing resources
  • Collaborate with ILP (Independent Living Program) providers to ensure consistent services 
  • Connect youth with supportive services including mental health, tutoring, housing, employment, and mentoring
  • Prepare reports and updates for team meetings, court hearings, and case plans as required
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to support holistic care
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level to include administrative support of the Department of Child Advocacy and Juvenile Services
Grade
The grade for this position is 100D. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
 
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

 
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or G.E.D AND
  • Two (2) years of administrative support or related office experience OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Basic typing
  • No criminal convictions involving children
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a similar field
  • Three (3) years of related experience
  • An equivalent combination of five or more years of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job will also be considered
  • Experience writing legal notes and reports
  • Experience with school related meetings (i.e. TIES, MDR, Tribunals)
  • Experience completing school related documents and forms (i.e. FAFSA, college applications)
