Base Hiring Salary Ranges:  
Development Inspector I: $40,900 - $47,035
Development Inspector II: $48,337 - $55,588
Development Inspector III: $52,567 - $60,452

Job Description

The Development Inspector position is assigned to the Development Inspections team with the Development Division. The Development Inspector III will assist lower-level personnel with the interpretation of applicable codes, ordinance, laws, and the inspection of construction sites. The Development Inspector III will act as the primary back-up to the Chief Development Inspector, may supervise staff, assist in formulating policies and procedures, and perform other duties of a similar nature or level. 

Essential Duties:
  • Conducting field inspections of residential, multifamily, commercial, and industrial land development sites which includes clearing, grading, paving, landscaping, and stormwater best management practices for compliance with the applicable approved plans, Federal, State, and County regulations and standards, and erosion and sediment control requirements
  • Preparing reports, forms, citations, and other regulatory enforcement information, and documenting in the department databases
  • Responding to inquiries and concerns received from developers, contractors, homeowners, and other customers pertinent to land development activities, applicable regulations and standards, erosion and sediment control requirements, and required corrective actions
  • Hosts pre-construction meetings as needed with property owners/developers, contractors, and engineers to review plans, provide information concerning inspection process, and ensure all additional required permits have been issued
  • Performing other duties that support the objectives of the Development Inspections Section
Minimum Qualifications
Development Inspector I (Grade B21(2)):
  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D., and three (3) years of related construction experience.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to competently perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license from the state of residency.
  • NPDES Level 1-B Erosion Control Inspector certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. 
Development Inspector II (Grade B23(2)): 
  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D., and five (5) years of related construction experience to include two (2) years of regulation enforcement/inspection experience.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to competently perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license from the state of residency.
  • NPDES Level 1-B Erosion Control Inspector certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. 
Development Inspector III (Grade B24(2)):
  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D., and seven (7) years of related construction experience to include four (4) years of regulation enforcement/inspection experience.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to competently perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license from the state of residency.
  • NPDES Level 1-B Erosion Control Inspector certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
  • Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) or Certified Arborist.
