Position Overview
The Settlements Analyst is a key member of Guzman Energy’s Settlements Team, responsible for validating and reconciling wholesale energy market invoices, producing and interpreting operational and settlement reporting, and supporting cross-functional financial operations. This full-time role offers meaningful exposure to ISO/RTO markets, transmission billing, and bilateral trade processing while working alongside Trading, Risk, Accounting, and Operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Validate and reconcile ISO/RTO market shadow settlements, invoices, and settlement details against internal records
- Validate physical and financial bilateral trading invoices and process transactions using internal software and accounting systems
- Create, review, and interpret operational and settlement reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
- Validate monthly load checkouts by reconciling totals against contract requirements to support accurate customer billing
- Assist with Renewable Energy Credit settlement reconciliation and general checkout activities
- Interact with Accounting on weekly cash requirements; support balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger tie-out
- Process and validate transmission invoices, including tariff changes and applicable tariff schedule charges
- Review and validate pricing information for billing; support quarterly EQR filings and collateral balance reporting
- Work with large datasets to analyze, summarize, and identify potential discrepancies or settlement issues, using Excel or AI-assisted tools
- Identify potential settlement or billing problems, present alternatives, and propose solutions to management
- Document settlement processes and drive efficiency improvements for recurring tasks
- Provide timely financial reports to Trading, Risk, Accounting, and Market Operations teams; interact professionally with external counterparties
- Participate in special projects including process improvement, system documentation, and ad hoc analysis
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a related field
- 1–3 years of experience in the electric utility industry or wholesale/retail electric markets
- Experience in market settlements or operations with solid understanding of RTO/ISO market rules
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including spreadsheet modeling and large dataset analysis
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills; ability to identify discrepancies, summarize findings, and perform ad hoc reporting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with customers and external counterparties
- Ability to manage multiple assignments accurately and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion and integrity
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with databases, SQL, or Python for data analysis and reporting
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to work with data or improve analytical workflows
- Familiarity with ERP systems or business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience with financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliation, or general ledger processes

Location & Work Environment
This position is based in our downtown Denver office and requires in-person attendance Monday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Fridays.
