Position Overview
Guzman Energy’s culture of compliance drives both operational excellence and accurate, reliable, and complete compliance reporting. The Compliance Intern plays a pivotal role, performing and tracking performance of key compliance efforts. Additionally, this role has access to and supports functions across Guzman, including accounting, finance, legal, regulatory, operations, settlements, and risk management.
This is a paid, in-person internship based in Guzman Energy’s Denver, CO office, starting immediately and extending approximately through the balance of 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn from internal and external experts to understand laws, regulations, and policies underpinning Guzman’s compliance efforts
- Take advantage of company-provided professional education opportunities when offered
- Identify, track, develop reporting for, and submit compliance reporting to key internal and external compliance stakeholders
- Maintain the compliance tracking calendar, identify upcoming filing requirements, inform responsible personnel of upcoming deadlines, validate report creation and submission, and save evidence of compliance
- Where assigned, prepare and submit compliance reports, including:
- California and Washington carbon compliance
- Annual corporate compliance reporting
- Tracking and reporting Renewable Energy Credit (REC) obligations
- Perform contract compliance, including:
- Environmental attribute tracking and reporting, including WREGIS, CRS, CA RPS, and CA-ARB
- REC contract checkouts, validating counterparties’ deliveries, quantities, and terms to ensure accurate settlement and tracking
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and extreme attention to detail
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively with multiple stakeholders, including building and maintaining relationships with external partners
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

- Experience in the utility, renewable energy, advanced energy economy, or gas industry

Location & Work Environment
This position is based in our downtown Denver office and requires in-person attendance Monday through Thursday. Interns will work up to 29 hours per week, with schedules determined in coordination with their direct manager. Our collaborative culture values innovation, integrity, & impact.
