Swim Instructor

DESCRIPTION

Swim School Instructors will work in the pool with children of all ages, as well as adults. The Swim School Instructor is a year-round position, with hours ranging from day-time and evening during the school year at two indoor facilities, as well as mornings Monday through Saturday during the summer at the outdoor facility. Swim Instructors will report directly to the Swim School Coordinator. Applicants must be reliable, punctual, mature and at least 14 years of age (though 16 is preferred due to labor restrictions conflicting with program times). All Applicants will be hired on the basis of an application, availability, interview, and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide swim instruction as outlined in the Gurnee Park District Swim Instructor Manual and to the standards of the Gurnee Park District Swim Program
2. Prevent accidents by following and enforcing pool rules and monitoring the class at all times
3. Instruct each student with patience and consideration
4. Instructors are required to get in the water each class
5. Utilize instructional aides and equipment as available
6. Check locker rooms between classes. Shut off showers and pick up garbage
7. If participant requires disciplinary action inform a manager so their parents can be notified
8. Keep accurate records on each and every student showing his or her progress throughout the current swim session and to update swimmers file at the end of class
9. Follow, promote and help implement the Gurnee Park District Customer Service Standards (SOFIE)
10. Maintain accurate attendance records and inform Managers if student is not attending
11. Maintain your class Skill Sheet each class day and keep information current
12. Provide Parent Letters on the first day of class
13. Provide Progress Reports on the last day of class
14. Attend every class of the session, it is the instructors responsibility to secure his or her sub if unable to attend a scheduled class and only with manager approval
15. Attend Swim Instructor trainings for review of skills, general information, and review of procedures
16. Read and understand the Gurnee Park Districts Personnel Policy Manual, Aquatic Manual, and Swim Instructor Manual.
17. Perform all other duties assigned to the best of your ability

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform seasonal maintenance tasks to prepare the facility and area
2. Assist with office work as assigned by management staff

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience: Preferred applicants should possess prior experience working in and around water, experience working with children of all ages, experience as a teacher or instructor of any kind, and any other experience working in customer care.
• Education: No formal education necessary.
• Skills: Customer care skills, teaching skills, swimming skills
• Certifications: No certifications necessary.
• Competencies: Applicants shall show competency in the following areas: able to supervise patrons and provide feedback to management staff as needed, readily recall details necessary to perform the job, communicate clearly through written and verbal communication, responsible, dependable, demonstrate self-confidence, work cordially with all staff and patrons, able to evaluate and provide feedback to participants and their parents, and should be motivated to succeed!

Salary : $15 - $18
