Parks Ambassador

DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of the Director of Parks and Planning or Grounds Operations Supervisor the Park Ambassador performs a variety of tasks such as cleaning parks of garbage and weeds, performing basic grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, string trimming and pruning, monitoring the activities of park users; provides information to park users; and assists local law enforcement agency with the enforcement of District policies and codes at various parks, primarily weeknights as well as Saturdays and Sundays; performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

1. Responsible for completing tasks assigned by Risk Manager or assigned crew leader in a safe and timely manner
2. Safely operate and maintain GPD vehicles and equipment
3. Help to enforce District ordinances, codes and rules at parks and facilities
4. Completes inspections and accurate reporting of unsafe conditions
5. Performs daily general park clean up include picking up garbage, emptying garbage cans and pulling weeds
6. Works cooperatively with fellow team members and the general public
7. Performs general daily inspections on vehicles and equipment in use
8. Routinely inspects our playgrounds and sports facilities/fields programmed and permitted use.
9. Checks our picnic facilities for permitted use.
10. Assists park patrons with problem solving and park policy interpretation according to the Park District Ordinance Code regulating the use of parks and property owned and controlled by the Gurnee Park District.
11. Inspects, cleans and/or secures (locks) washrooms and facilities when assigned
12. Works weekends or evenings when assigned
13. Must always wear appropriate safety apparel supplied by the District
14. Works on turf maintenance, using push mowers, weed whips and if trained, the riding mowers. Prunes shrubs and trees with accepted cultural practices when assigned by the Risk Manager or crew leader
15. Performs all tasks necessary to assure a safe environment at all Park District facilities

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist in the set and breakdown of special events.
2. Inspects and repairs playground equipment when assigned
3. Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience – 2 years of experience in grounds maintenance and/or the security/guest relations fields.
• Education – Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Skills – Must be able to communicate effectively with park patrons. Must be able to read and understand the Gurnee Park District Ordinance Code and general Park District rules and regulations. Must have the ability to follow directions and work well with fellow team members. Should possess the physical ability to carry out assigned duties and be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Reads and understands safety rules and regulations in the Parks Team Employee Manual.
• Certifications – Must have a valid driver’s license. Must obtain the CPR/First Aid/AED Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Competencies – Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, reports and memos. Must possess basic computer knowledge. Employee must have an outgoing and positive attitude.

Salary : $18 - $20
