Position Description: Lead Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations, ensuring machinery uptime, coordinating emergency repairs, and maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient production environment. This role requires strong mechanical and/or electrical maintenance skills, leadership ability, and on-call availability.
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Department: Maintenance
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with on-call availability
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
• Supervise maintenance technicians and ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Address unresolved issues and assume responsibility for pending work.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies and safety standards.
Daily Responsibilities
• Monitor utilities and oversee utility logs and line walks.
• Inspect and maintain chilled water and hot oil systems.
• Identify and report facility maintenance needs.
• Inspect extrusion, slitting, and packaging equipment; schedule/perform repairs during production stoppages.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas; log parts used and downtime.
Weekly Responsibilities
• Oversee 5S activities in designated maintenance areas.
• Maintain inventory of oils, chemicals, and supplies.
• Submit maintenance documentation and updates every Friday.
Monthly Responsibilities
• Inspect and maintain facility infrastructure: drains, seals, and rooftop units.
Emergency & On-Call Duties
• Provide emergency response support as needed.
• Resolve machine issues during nights, weekends, or holidays.
Preventive Maintenance
• Follow TPM programs: time-based, opportunity-based, vibration/infrared analysis.
• Perform daily/weekly equipment inspections and greasing routines.
Repair & Troubleshooting
• Conduct regular equipment checks and resolve mechanical/electrical issues.
• Coordinate with production to schedule and perform efficient repairs.
• Document all downtime and maintenance work.
Vendor & Contractor Coordination
• Escort and assist service providers for inspections and repairs.
• Follow up on outstanding items from vendor reports.
• Submit completed job tickets to the Maintenance Manager.
Skills & Qualifications
• Strong mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
• Familiarity with OPS Extrusion/Slitting equipment and utilities.
• Ability to read and follow SOPs and maintenance checklists.
• Forklift license required.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and work in hot/cold environments.
• Comfortable with chemicals and physically demanding tasks.
• Willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends as needed.
