Role:
Maintains the Credit Union's accounting records and reports, ensuring they are in compliance with generally accepted accounting practices and Credit Union accounting practices.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
25% Maintains daily and month-end operations of the department. Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
25% Delegates and reviews the work of Accounting Assistants and/or other employees engaged in general accounting activities. Empowered to answer the questions of the Accounting Assistants and/or other departments.
20% Prepares financial statements, Call Reports, and other accounting statements and reports. Oversees accounts payable and assists in the budget process for the organization.
10% Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets and expenditures.
10% Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures.
5% Participates in projects and coordinates accounting matters with other departments, and locations.
5% Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
1. All postings are current, and all accounts are in balance.
2. Management reports, including Call Reports, are prepared within prescribed time frames and with zero unresolved errors.
3. All month-end activities, including journal entries, balancing accounts, and production of assigned financial statements are completed within prescribed number of days after the end of the month.
4. Member and internal inquiries are resolved in a timely, professional, and accurate manner.
5. Management is informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
6. Complies with all applicable rules, regulations and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC and Physical Security.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience Three to five years of similar or related experience.
Education A bachelor's degree in accounting and experience with automated data processing systems including PC software programs and mainframe systems.
Interpersonal Skills Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Other Skills Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak English clearly.
Normally expected to work between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. but may be required to work nights and/or weekends.
Must adhere to safety rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements Light or low amount of physical exertion. Reasonable accommodations could be made, based upon need.
Work Environment The position is based in-office in our Pensacola, FL market, operates primarily in an office setting, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.
This position requires consistent presence in the office to effectively collaborate with team members and fulfill job responsibilities. It requires the ability to actively participate in conference calls and meetings with other Credit Union team members and vendors.
The normal expected work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. Occasional after-hours work or travel may be required to meet project deadlines or attend training.
