Position Summary:
The Abatement Supervisor oversees asbestos removal and hazardous material abatement projects to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Responsible for coordinating project schedules, conducting site inspections, and enforcing OSHA, EPA, and safety standards. This position includes monitoring containment procedures, proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, maintaining project documentation, and communicating with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies. The supervisor also trains and mentors employees, ensures the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and promotes a strong culture of workplace safety and environmental compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate asbestos abatement and hazardous material remediation projects from start to completion.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.
- Direct and monitor field crews to ensure safe work practices and project efficiency.
- Conduct daily site inspections to verify containment integrity, air quality procedures, and safety compliance.
- Implement and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and decontamination procedures.
- Review project specifications, work plans, and abatement protocols with employees and subcontractors.
- Schedule labor, equipment, and materials to meet project timelines and budgets.
- Maintain accurate project records, including daily logs, exposure monitoring reports, manifests, and safety documentation.
- Coordinate waste handling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate with clients, contractors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies regarding project progress and compliance matters.
- Conduct employee safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.
- Identify and resolve job-site hazards, operational issues, and employee concerns in a timely manner.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, training, and corrective action when necessary.
- Ensure proper setup and operation of containment systems, negative air machines, and related abatement equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations, spills, or exposure incidents according to company and regulatory procedures.
- Assist with project estimating, planning, and quality control inspections as needed.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and environmental responsibility at all job sites.
- Reliable and predictable attendance
Qualifications:
- Washington Certified Asbestos Contractor Supervisor License - REQUIRED
- Abatement experience in both residential and commercial – preferred
- Building Inspector License - preferred
Working Conditions / Environment: This position operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires the ability to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and kneeling.
The physical demands described in this job description represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is labor intensive, with lifting required. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather.
Assume responsibility for work outcomes and results of other workers. May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated. When working onsite, will be required to wear common protective of safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.
