Job Title: Senior Outdoor Leader (part-time)

Reports to: Program Director 

Program: Another Summit

Location: Hudson Valley, New York (On-site)

Schedule: 19 hours per week 

Compensation: $20.00/hour 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Guardian Revival is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting military, veterans, first responders, and their families through trauma-informed programming, peer support, and community-based wellness initiatives. Our mission is to revive and preserve the mental health and well-being of those who serve our communities and our nation.


Position Summary

The Senior Outdoor Leader at Another Summit is responsible for planning and delivering safe, high-quality, educational outdoor experiences by ensuring program goals are met, teaching advanced outdoor skills, and conducting comprehensive risk assessments of outdoor activities. Senior Outdoor Leaders may be FTE, PT, or Temp. This position requires expertise in Leave-No-Trace principles, outdoor living skills, risk management, ecotherapy techniques, and small-team leadership. Senior Outdoor Leaders advocate for inclusivity by offering a range of opportunities, including outings that are fully accessible to all ages and abilities, by identifying and mitigating common barriers to participation. Senior Outdoor Leaders are also responsible for the professional development and supervision of outdoor leaders and other team members as assigned.  The role involves leading and assisting in-person outdoor adventures, and requires travel throughout the Hudson Valley. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership

  • Responsible for planning, leading, and assessing outings commensurate with their skill level.
  • May supervise outdoor leaders or other team members.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to outdoor leaders and team members, fostering professional growth and development.


Program Implementation

  • Ensures outings adhere to program goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates and teaches advanced outdoor living skills and Leave No Trace principles.


Risk Management

  • Conducts comprehensive risk assessments and implements safety management plans.
  • Models and enforces safety protocols to minimize risk during outdoor activities.


Participant Engagement

  • Engages with participants to ensure a positive and educational experience.
  • Collects and evaluates feedback to continuously improve program quality.


Training and Development

  • Delivers experiential education curriculum to participants and may be responsible for developing and delivering lesson plans.
  • The consummate professional, always learning and maintaining technical skills.


Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

  • Promotes DEI initiatives within outdoor programs, ensuring an inclusive environment for all participants.


Qualifications

Experience and Certification

  • 3-5 years of experience in outdoor leadership or related field.
  • At least 100 days of field experience leading outdoor trips.
  • Wilderness First Aid is required for all outings offered at Another Summit.
  • Minimum Wilderness First Responder certification is preferred.
  • New York Guide license or equivalent is preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in outdoor skills and the use of relevant equipment.
  • Proficiency in collaborative digital workspaces such as Google Workspace, Slack, and Monday.com.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
