Guaranteed Cleaning Services (GCS) is a growing commercial cleaning company serving clients throughout Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, and South Carolina.
We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Director with commercial cleaning industry experience to lead our Human Resources department. This individual will build and improve HR programs while partnering with Operations to recruit, retain, and support a large hourly workforce.
The ideal candidate understands the unique challenges of the commercial cleaning industry and has experience implementing employee benefits, improving retention, supporting field operations, and building HR processes that scale with company growth.
Responsibilities- Lead all Human Resources functions for a growing commercial cleaning company.
- Partner with executive leadership and Operations Managers to support business growth.
- Develop recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies for a multi-site hourly workforce.
- Support Operations Managers with employee relations, investigations, coaching, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
- Implement and manage employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits.
- Work directly with insurance brokers to evaluate and negotiate competitive employee benefit programs.
- Manage annual open enrollment and employee benefits education.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Oversee workers' compensation, unemployment claims, leave administration, and HR compliance.
- Maintain employee files, HR documentation, policies, and employee handbook updates.
- Develop HR metrics and KPIs, including turnover, retention, time-to-fill, employee engagement, and recruiting performance.
- Partner with Finance on payroll coordination and workforce planning.
- Train managers on HR policies, employment law, and leadership best practices.
- Travel to customer locations as needed to support managers and employees.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience.
- Previous Human Resources experience supporting a commercial cleaning or janitorial company
- Experience supporting a large hourly workforce across multiple customer locations.
- Experience implementing and managing employee benefit programs.
- Experience working directly with insurance brokers and benefit providers.
- Strong employee relations experience, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and performance management.
- Experience with HRIS, payroll systems, and Applicant Tracking Systems.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, workers' compensation, FMLA, ADA, ACA, COBRA, and wage and hour regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the service area.
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
- Experience supporting government or secure-facility contracts.
- Experience building HR departments and improving HR processes in a growing organization.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
