CATHODIC PROTECTION TECHNICIAN

PAY RANGE:  $54,414.00 - $90,689.00

WORK LOCATION:  Seguin, Texas  

SUMMARY 

Under the general supervision of the E/I Tech Manager the Cathodic Protection (CP) Technician will be tasked with inspecting and testing equipment, CP repairs, CP Surveys, predictive and preventive maintenance on CP Systems, and general field CP testing reports on all water distribution pipelines for GBRA.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of cathodic protection systems. 
• Install and configure cathodic protection equipment under supervision. 
• Analyzes system data to maintain engineered corrosion control systems. 
• Implements approved corrosion control methods as specified by company policy and state and federal regulations. 
• Prepares and maintains all required documentation in accordance with company policy and procedures including equipment calibration. 
• Completes analysis to troubleshoot cathodic protection systems for natural gas distribution & transmission systems. 
• Responsible for data processing integrity to, within, and from multiple applications through interface design & troubleshooting. 
• Coordinates with service representatives and Chief Operators for necessary repairs. 
• Maintain detailed documentation of preventive maintenance, inspections, and tests. 
• Perform all work in a safe manner as required in the safety manual. 
• Use appropriate test procedures to verify equipment is de-energized. 
• Use grounds and the lock out-tag out procedure before beginning work.  
• Assist employees in developing safe work habits pertaining to electrical equipment. 
• Provides input to leadership during the development of the work plan and annual budgets. 
• Make recommendations to leadership for major repairs or improvements.  
• Attend service schools or seminars and review current literature in order to stay abreast of new developments. 
• Perform additional duties as assigned.  

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES 

• Communicate effectively with supervisors, technicians, engineers and trainees to provide and obtain needed information and instruction. 
• Ability to train an apprentice CP Technician and E/I Technicians.   
• Read, understand and explain safety data sheets, instructions and labels, etc. 
• Ability to hear bells, horns, alarms, and any other audible indicators of message or emergency while inside operating hydroelectric generating stations, water and wastewater treatment plants, or pump stations. 
• Work in adverse weather conditions.  
• Work weekends and nights when needed and respond with minimum delay. Remain available for duty in the event of an emergency. 
• Analyze and understand complex plan drawings. 
• Be knowledgeable of the policies and procedures relating to electrical safety. 
• Possess basic computer skills with the ability to modify and/or make setting changes to electronic equipment. 
• The permanent residence for employees must be such that roadway travel time from their place of residence to 933 E. Court Street, Seguin, TX is within 45 minutes.  This response time must be achieved without violating speed limit laws. 

EDUCATION  

High School diploma or equivalent.  

REGISTRATIONS/LICENSES 

• Texas Driver’s License (Commercial Driver’s License is highly desirable). 
• Acceptable M.V.R. 

EXPERIENCE  

• Must have 5 years’ experience as a CP Technician and must have an AMPP/NACA CP2 or CP3 Certification. 
• Previous experience in the utility and/or water industry is highly desirable.

Standard physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting, and basic motor skills to operate necessary computer programs. Wear personal protection equipment as outlined in the employee Safety Manual such as full-face respirator. Climb up and down vertical ladders up to twenty (20) feet. Lift loads up to fifty (50) pounds chest high. Operate large valves. Enter and work in confined spaces, as defined by OSHA. Perform basic first aid and CPR. Respond to visual and audible alarms. Accurately interpret true color. Walk several miles in a day. Occasional walking across terrains primarily on GBRA properties or sites. ?
 

Employees must wear protective footwear in compliance with ANSI or ASTM standard.  New employees are provided protective footwear.  Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Persons in this position work out of the electrical/instrumentation shop at 933 East Court Street, Seguin, TX 78133 and travel throughout the Guadalupe River basin to repair and maintain all Cathodic Protection equipment located at all GBRA and facilities and GBRA Pipeline easements.? Work is approximately seventy (70) percent outdoor and thirty (30) percent indoor. Person in this position maybe required to assist?E/I Techs working in electrical power plants, electrical substations, spillway operating piers, pump stations, water treatment plants, lift stations and wastewater treatment plants.? They may be required to assist in repairing high voltage power lines as well.? Persons in this position may be subject to being on-call at any time and under all weather conditions.
