About the Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented Industrial Process Estimator to support cost estimating, bid preparation, and proposal development for industrial construction and process facility projects.

This position is ideal for an Estimator, Construction Estimator, or engineering professional with experience in oil and gas, industrial process facilities, mechanical and piping systems, or multidisciplinary construction projects.

The Process Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive construction cost estimates, performing quantity takeoffs, preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs), and coordinating vendor and subcontractor pricing across civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation and controls (I&C) disciplines.

Working closely with business development, engineering, project management, and construction operations teams, you will help evaluate project requirements, establish realistic construction budgets, and prepare comprehensive proposals for industrial construction opportunities.

This role offers exposure to the complete estimating and preconstruction process, from initial Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Quotation (RFQ) review through contract award and project handoff.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Cost Estimating & Bid Development

  • Prepare detailed construction cost estimates for industrial process facilities, oil and gas projects, and multidisciplinary construction scopes.
  • Review and interpret RFPs, RFQs, engineering drawings, construction specifications, contract documents, and project schedules.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs, material takeoffs (MTOs), and Bill of Materials (BOM) development.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, rentals, general conditions, and indirect project costs.
  • Build discipline-specific estimates covering civil, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, process piping, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Develop unit pricing, labor productivity assumptions, equipment costs, and construction cost models using Microsoft Excel and estimating tools.
  • Evaluate project requirements, construction methods, site conditions, and scheduling considerations to develop competitive and realistic estimates.
  • Identify project risks, scope gaps, cost-saving opportunities, and potential constructability challenges.

RFP/RFQ Management & Proposal Preparation

  • Coordinate the estimating process from initial bid review through final proposal submission.
  • Prepare professional customer proposals, including detailed scope of work (SOW), inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and clarifications.
  • Develop bid packages, cost breakdowns, schedules of values, and supporting documentation.
  • Review commercial requirements, including payment terms, tax considerations, project schedules, and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate with engineering and design teams to obtain drawings, general arrangements, and technical information required for accurate estimates.
  • Support bid reviews, pricing discussions, and proposal presentations with internal stakeholders and customers.

Vendor, Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination

  • Solicit and evaluate competitive pricing from material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and subcontractors.
  • Review vendor quotations for technical compliance, scope coverage, pricing accuracy, and delivery requirements.
  • Assist with subcontractor bid leveling, pricing negotiations, and supplier selection.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industrial construction vendors, equipment suppliers, and specialty subcontractors.
  • Research material costs, labor rates, equipment pricing, and current market conditions to support accurate estimating.

Industrial Process & Technical Estimating

Develop and support estimates involving a variety of industrial construction disciplines, including:

Civil & Site Development

  • Earthwork, grading, excavation, cut and fill, drainage, access roads, fencing, and stormwater management (SWPPP).
  • Site preparation, underground utilities, and related infrastructure.

Concrete & Structural Construction

  • Concrete foundations, piers, reinforcing steel, formwork, grouting, and equipment foundations.
  • Structural steel, industrial buildings, platforms, supports, and specialty steel construction.

Mechanical & Process Piping

  • Process piping systems, pipe, valves, fittings (PVF), and mechanical equipment installation.
  • Pumps, compressors, rotating equipment, process skids, and OEM equipment integration.
  • Welding, fabrication, insulation, coatings, testing, and commissioning support.

Electrical Systems

  • Electrical distribution, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and electrical panels.
  • Cable and conduit systems, grounding, lighting, heat tracing, and temporary construction power.

Instrumentation, Automation & Controls

  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), instrumentation, process controls, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Instrumentation installation, control panels, cable schedules, and industrial automation infrastructure.

Project Coordination & Construction Support

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to validate estimate assumptions and construction feasibility.
  • Participate in site visits, project scoping meetings, and customer discussions.
  • Assist in developing preliminary construction schedules, project milestones, and execution plans.
  • Research and recommend construction means, methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Support project kickoff meetings and the transition of awarded projects from estimating to construction operations.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records, bid documentation, and project correspondence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or related discipline), Construction Management, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 1–5 years of experience in construction estimating, industrial construction, process facilities, oil and gas, or related field construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of industrial construction methods, materials, equipment, and project execution.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, engineering specifications, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), piping isometrics, and electrical single-line diagrams.
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding of construction cost estimating, material takeoffs, quantity takeoffs, and bid preparation.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including spreadsheets, formulas, cost calculations, and estimating worksheets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and other standard business applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, construction managers, and customers.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates, competing deadlines, and changing project requirements.
  • Willingness to visit industrial construction sites and customer locations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience estimating industrial process facilities, oil and gas facilities, manufacturing plants, energy infrastructure, or EPC projects.
  • Experience with mechanical construction, process piping, pipe fabrication, equipment installation, or industrial electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary estimating across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Experience preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs), Material Takeoffs (MTOs), and detailed construction cost breakdowns.
  • Familiarity with construction estimating software, cost databases, or bid management platforms.
  • Experience using Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, or similar drawing review and markup software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project or construction scheduling tools.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment procurement, vendor bid evaluations, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Understanding of constructability, labor productivity, field installation methods, and construction sequencing.
