Requirements
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop new customers.
- Present and sale a wide variety of industrial supplies and construction fasteners to a diverse customer base
- Develop effective relationships with customers and suppliers throughout their organizations
- Deliver orders and samples to customers as needed
- Understand customer business priorities and processes
- Demonstrate products and train customers on product applications, often with the assistance of supplier personnel
- Identify and document opportunities for additional sales and then pursue those opportunities to a conclusion
- Resolve quality issues, application issues, and customer complaints
- Negotiate profitable pricing and other commercial issues and renegotiate same as circumstances change
- Develop and achieve a sales budget subject to management approval
- Understand distributor business strategy
- Utilize solutions-based selling skills to sell value instead of price
LANGUAGE SKILLS
A Sales Engineer must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. They communicate with fellow Bolts employees, supplier personnel, and customer personnel ranging from operators on the line to senior management. They also develop and make presentations to audiences of varying size. Presentations and quotes must be accurate.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Sales Engineers regularly use Microsoft Office products, Bolt’s ERP system, and a CRM system.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Sales Engineers must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. These skills are necessary in many aspects of the job. Large-scale opportunities often involve long lists of items.
OTHER SKILLS
Because Sales Engineers frequently work alone and at their own direction, they must have excellent discipline, organizational skills, time management skills, and a sense of urgency. The nature of a Sales Engineer’s job also requires a clean driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the Sales Engineer is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Sales Engineers also must be able to lift 60 pounds. The Sales Engineer frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit, all for extended periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Very high energy, sometimes stressful or demanding deadlines and deliverables. Travel via ground and air as required in the sales territory and occasionally nationwide.
