What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auto Glass Technician/Shop Manager position at GSI Complete Glass, Inc.?
The Role
This is a hybrid role — half hands-on auto glass technician, half shop manager. You'll install and repair auto glass yourself, and you'll keep the shop stocked, organized, and running so custom and auto glass work flows smoothly. The right person is equally comfortable setting a windshield in the morning and pricing a custom order and checking in a vendor shipment in the afternoon.
What You'll Do
Auto Glass (about half the job)
- Remove and install windshields, door glass, back glass, and vent glass on cars and trucks
- Perform rock chip and windshield repairs
- Prep vehicles properly and ensure a clean, leak-free, quality fit on every job
- Follow safe drive-away times and current auto glass and ADAS/calibration standards
- Keep auto glass inventory stocked and orders turned around quickly
Shop Management (about half the job)
- Manage inventory of glass, materials, and supplies for custom/architectural and auto glass work — track stock and reorder before it runs out
- Receive shipments from vendors and manufacturer partners (Milgard, Jeld-Wen, Marvin, Therma-Tru, PPG); check materials in against orders and flag shortages, damage, or errors
- Price and quote incoming auto and custom glass requests for customers
- Stage and organize materials by job so installs are ready to go
- Handle customer calls, walk-ins, and requests professionally
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe — tools, glass racks, and materials in their place
What We're Looking For
We're weighting this role 50/50 — strong auto glass skills and the organization to run a shop. Ideal candidates bring both; we'll consider someone strong on one side who can grow into the other.
Auto glass side:
- Hands-on auto glass installation and repair experience (windshields, door/back glass, chip repair)
- Knowledge of proper prep, adhesives, safe drive-away times, and ADAS/calibration awareness
- ADAS calibration experience preferred
- Quality-minded and detail-oriented — clean, leak-free installs every time
Shop management side:
- Strong organization — juggle inventory, incoming shipments, and customer requests without dropping the ball
- Comfortable pricing and quoting work, and good with customers on the phone and in person
- Basic computer skills for inventory, ordering, and quotes
- Reliable and self-directed; you take ownership of keeping the shop in order
Both:
- Safety-minded and comfortable handling glass and materials
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record

- Steady, year-round work across residential, commercial, and auto glass
- A role with real ownership and room to grow as the company grows
