What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deck Sales Representative position at GS Exterior Experts?
Position Purpose
The Deck Sales Representative serves as the primary technical design and sales interface for GS Exterior Experts' premium custom decking division. This role is responsible for executing pre-qualified, inbound sales consultations to help homeowners design and build highly durable, weather-resistant, and fire-conscious outdoor living spaces.
By representing elite national brands like TimberTech AZEK, and Deckorators, the sales professional will create custom designs that meet strict municipal building and Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) codes. Operating with high integrity and a low-pressure, consultative approach, this role supports the company's "Gold Standard" of customer service and quality craftsmanship.
Primary Responsibilities
- Execute Consultative In-Home Design Meetings: Conduct professional, scheduled face-to-face consultations with homeowners across the Denver metropolitan area. Translate client design ideas into beautiful, low-maintenance outdoor spaces.
- Specify Premium Composite & PVC Solutions: Educate clients on the performance and maintenance benefits of synthetic decking over natural wood in Colorado's climate. Highlight advanced features like TimberTech AZEK's 50-year warranty, class A fire ratings, and its ability to run up to 30°F cooler than standard composites.
- Conduct Structural Assessments & Zoning Calculations: Evaluate existing framing, ledger attachments, and footings to confirm the feasibility of deck replacements or structural modifications. Calculate property lot coverage limits and setback requirements to prevent municipal code violations.
- Develop Precise Proposals & Cost Estimates: Generate accurate project bids based on square footage, material selections, and specific structural and engineering requirements (such as heavy snow loads or wind-load anchors).
- Coordinate Multi-Trade Cross-Selling Opportunities: Leverage the company’s extensive exterior catalog—including James Hardie siding, replacement windows, and impact-resistant roofing—to package comprehensive exterior remodeling solutions.
- Manage Seamless Project Handoffs: Document project scopes, material specifications, and design selections in the company's CRM system. Coordinate with lead Project Manager Oswald Hernandez, Install Manager Jamie, and field construction crews to ensure accurate project execution.
Required Colorado-Specific Experience and Qualifications
- Proven Residential Sales Track Record: Minimum of 2–3 years of professional B2C in-home sales experience, with a focus on closing high-ticket contracts ($15,000 to $60,000 range) in the residential remodeling, outdoor living, or construction industries.
- Front Range Regulatory & Permitting Expertise: Solid understanding of localized permitting thresholds, setback rules, lot coverage restrictions, and frost line requirements across Front Range municipalities (such as Boulder, Jeff-CO, and Douglas County).
- WUI and Fire Code Literacy: Practical experience specifying Class A fire-rated, ignition-resistant, and WUI-compliant materials in wildfire-conscious jurisdictions.
- Climatic Performance Competence: Deep understanding of how Colorado's extreme weather—including intense high-altitude UV radiation, sudden freeze-thaw cycles, and major diurnal temperature swings—impacts physical materials.
- Design-Build and Presentation Skills: Experience using design-build sales methodologies, presenting custom design solutions, and interpreting residential layouts. Ability to draft basic scaled drawings or work with digital design platforms.
- Professional Integrity and Customer Alignment: Strong active listening and communication skills that align with GS Exterior Experts' values of honesty, dedication, and building long-term customer relationships.
- Licensing & Operational Compliance: High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license with a clean driving record for daily travel to client appointments. No mandatory professional licenses are required, though local contractor credentials or manufacturer certifications are highly valued.
Physical and Operational Requirements
- Field Evaluation Demands: Must be able to navigate residential properties, backyard slopes, and construction sites to take physical measurements, perform site inspections, and access elevated structures.
- Operational Schedule Flexibility: Ability to conduct evening and Saturday morning in-home consultations to accommodate homeowner schedules.
- Reliable Transportation: Must provide a reliable personal vehicle for daily travel to appointments across the Front Range; travel and mileage reimbursement will be provided.
