President of Southwest – Mechanical MEP Construction (Commercial & Industrial) - Phoenix, AZ
Gryphon Oakwood is partnering with a rapidly growing, well-capitalised mechanical construction platform to appoint a President for a Southwest operation based in Phoenix, Arizona.
This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a regional business from the ground up, backed by significant financial resources, an established national footprint, and a strong reputation across industrial and commercial markets. The organisation delivers complex mechanical solutions across sectors including manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, and mission-critical environments, with capabilities spanning HVAC, piping, fabrication, and full lifecycle construction services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for a newly established regional mechanical construction business, with full accountability for performance and growth
- Define and execute the strategic plan, including market expansion, service offerings, and operational structure
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team across operations, construction, fabrication, preconstruction, and business development
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring consistent, high-quality project delivery from preconstruction through to completion
- Establish and drive performance metrics (KPIs), reporting structures, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain full P&L responsibility, including revenue growth, margin improvement, forecasting, and cost control
- Lead estimating, budgeting, and project financial reviews to ensure strong commercial outcomes
- Build and maintain strong client, subcontractor, and partner relationships to support long-term growth
- Identify and secure new business opportunities within industrial and mechanical construction markets
- Lead contract negotiations and major project pursuits
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and operational excellence
- Implement talent development, succession planning, and workforce growth strategies
Qualifications
- Extensive senior leadership experience within mechanical contracting, industrial construction, or related sectors
- Proven track record of building, scaling, or leading large operational teams and regional businesses
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, including process piping, HVAC, fabrication, and equipment installation
- Demonstrated experience with full P&L ownership, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in estimating, project controls, and contract management
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a growth environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field (preferred)
