The Grundy County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) is seeking an experienced Director of Electronic Operations to oversee countywide public safety communications and technology systems. This role provides leadership for the 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center and supports Police, Fire, and EMS agencies throughout Grundy County.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage countywide public safety communications and emergency technology systems
- Oversee operational and capital budgets, vendor contracts, grants, leases, and regulatory compliance
- Manage a 30‑site wide area network (WAN) connected by fiber and microwave infrastructure
- Direct public safety radio systems, dispatch technology, tower sites, and cybersecurity efforts
- Supervise technical staff and contractors
- Ensure continuous readiness of backup power systems and critical infrastructure
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Communications, Public Safety, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Experience with budgeting, strategic planning, and emergency communications or critical infrastructure projects
- Residency within 30 miles of the Grundy County 9-1-1 Center within one year is preferred, but not mandatory
- Valid Illinois driver’s license required
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs, climb ladders, and work outdoors at remote sites as needed
DESIRED TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
- Networking & Systems: Cisco, Netgear, Ubiquiti, VLANs, routed networks, Microsoft and Linux
- Virtualization: Redundant and replicated virtual server environments (Microsoft platforms)
- Public Safety Systems: Central Square OneSolution CAD/RMS, Intrado 911, Absolute NetMotion VPN
- Radio & Microwave: Aviat, Cielo, StarCom21, Motorola AXS consoles, Radio Manager, CPS, conventional radio
- Facilities & Infrastructure: Cummins Onan generators, Eaton Powerware UPS, Bard/Marvair HVAC, tower lighting
- Security: Milestone VMS, Axis IP cameras
- Familiarity with statewide emergency communications or interoperability plans is a strong plus
