Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) serves as the clinical leader of the facility and is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care, regulatory compliance, and strong clinical outcomes.
The DON oversees all nursing services in accordance with federal (CMS), state (NJ DOH), and local regulations while promoting quality improvement, staff development, and operational efficiency.
Position Overview
The Director of Nursing leads all clinical operations within the nursing department, ensuring compliance, maintaining high standards of resident care, and fostering a strong, accountable nursing team.
This role partners closely with facility leadership to ensure survey readiness, improve quality outcomes, and maintain efficient staffing and operational performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on clinical leader with strong long-term care experience who can effectively balance administrative responsibilities with daily clinical oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all nursing services to ensure compliance with CMS, NJ DOH, and facility policies
Oversee clinical operations to ensure high-quality, resident-centered care
Manage staffing, scheduling, and overall nursing team performance
Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives
Ensure infection control compliance and manage outbreak response
Maintain ongoing readiness for state and federal surveys
Monitor clinical outcomes, including rehospitalization rates and quality measures
Oversee medication management and clinical documentation accuracy
Support staff development, training, and competency validation
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on care planning and discharge coordination
Ensure appropriate staffing levels based on resident acuity
Provide 24/7 leadership coverage through an on-call rotation
Conduct regular clinical rounds and implement corrective action plans as needed
Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field preferred
Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in long-term care or skilled nursing
Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and NJ DOH requirements
Proven experience in staffing, clinical operations, and quality improvement
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Experience with EMR systems (PointClickCare preferred)
