What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Coach - Girls Varsity Soccer position at Groton School?
Groton School is seeking an Assistant Coach for its girls' varsity soccer program, beginning with the 2026-2027 fall term (from the beginning of September through Thanksgiving).
The Assistant Girls Varsity Soccer Coach is responsible for helping the Head Varsity Soccer Coach run the varsity soccer program, which includes—but is not limited to—conducting practices, motivating students, instructing student-athletes in game strategies and techniques, assisting with day-to-day logistics, and supporting the soccer program overall.
The hours are up to 20 hours a week, Monday through Saturday.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Instructs players in the techniques of the game
- Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises
- Assesses player skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the Head Soccer coach informed of the athletic performance of students
- Assists with determining game strategy
- Supervises athletes during practices and competition
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
- Models sportsmanship and nondiscriminatory practices in all activities and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, opponents, officials, and spectators
- Helps in submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season, in writing end-of-season player comments, and keeping the team page results/highlights current on the school website
- May need to perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors
- Collaborates with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments
- Travels with the team to away games
The ideal candidate will have:
- Two or more years of NCAA Division I, II, or III playing experience, a plus
- Up-to-date CPR certification (or willingness to become certified post-hire)
- Three or more years of coaching experience at the high school level or above
- Excellent knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of basketball
- Strong motivational and communication skills
- Inclusive approach to teaching and educating
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide array of constituents (students, coaches, staff, faculty, health care providers).
Compensation
This is a non-exempt, non-benefited, at-will position with a pay range of $4,000 - $4,500 for the term, commensurate with experience.
