Summary
This position is responsible for the design and commissioning of OEM equipment and systems and will report directly to the Engineering Manager. The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects from beginning to end, producing a high-quality product within established budget and time parameters.
Responsibilities
1) Design and implement control systems for various types of metal forming machines and associated automation equipment from beginning to end.
2) Create control specifications (functional descriptions, logic charts, I/O list, motor list, etc.).
3) Plan project deliverables and communicate the progress of projects to Management.
4) Hardware design and creation of electrical schematics and Bill of Materials.
5) Design and programming of PLC & HMI software.
6) Specification and programming of industrial robots for material handling.
7) Coordinate panel build and field wiring of machines.
8) Lead machine startup, debug and troubleshooting activities.
9) Participate in final machine commissioning at customer site
10) Manage engineering changes for electrical hardware and software control systems in adherence to the ISO quality system
11) Contribute to control hardware and software standards and best practices documentation.
12) Created detailed specifications and ensure vendors/suppliers adhere where applicable.
13) Continually improve existing control systems by deploying appropriate new technologies.
14) Drive implementation of Industry 4.0 and Connected Machine capabilities.
15) Maintain confidential information.
16) Other duties as assigned.
Background/Qualifications
1) BSEE, BSEET, Computer Engineering, Automation/Robotics or Mechatronics degree required.
2) 5 years’ experience in electrical design and control software programming with a strong background in industrial automated machinery systems.
3) Specific experience in the metal forming industry with application of pneumatics, hydraulics, lubrication, and control systems preferred and highly desired.
4) Use of AutoCAD Electrical for generating and maintaining schematics and panel layouts
5) Specific experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC and HMI systems
6) Programming experience in Function Block, Statement List and Structured Control languages.
7) CNC programming experience a plus as well as ancillary software programming experience in C , Visual Basic, LabVIEW or others as it relates to machine automation and data systems.
8) Experience with Fanuc and/or Yaskawa (Motoman) robot controls and vision systems.
9) Setup and configuration of AB, Siemens and SEW multi-axis servo drive systems.
10) Experience with fully automated machine cells employing part data tracking and serialization through the use of bar code scanners and laser marking systems.
11) High integrity, solid work ethic, energetic team player, willingness to help and take the initiative to get things done.
12) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
13) Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 20%.
14) Willing to work irregular hours when needed to support critical project milestones.
