Position Summary
Gross Construction is looking for a dependable Equipment Operator who takes pride in operating equipment safely, efficiently, and with precision. This role is responsible for helping crews complete excavation, grading, site preparation, demolition, and concrete support work while protecting people, equipment, and the finished product.
The ideal candidate understands that operating equipment is more than moving dirt—it's about thinking ahead, communicating with the crew, maintaining equipment, and taking ownership of every project.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate excavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, dozers, rollers, and other construction equipment.
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, material handling, demolition, and site preparation.
- Read grade stakes, plans, and layout information to achieve required elevations and specifications.
- Operate equipment smoothly and efficiently to maximize productivity while minimizing unnecessary wear.
Job site Ownership
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections.
- Identify mechanical issues early and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Keep equipment clean, fueled, and ready for the next day's work.
- Help maintain an organized, safe, and professional job site.
Teamwork
- Work closely with foremen, laborers, truck drivers, and project managers.
- Communicate clearly with ground personnel while operating equipment.
- Assist with manual labor when equipment operation is not required.
- Support the success of the entire crew rather than focusing only on operating equipment.
Safety
- Follow all OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
- Maintain awareness of underground utilities, overhead hazards, and surrounding personnel.
- Protect finished work, existing structures, and customer property.
- Stop work and communicate concerns whenever unsafe conditions exist.

Qualifications

- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical labor as needed.
