Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Operating Room Perioperative Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. This role involves providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures within a fast-paced ambulatory surgical environment. The ideal candidate will possess experience in OR settings, demonstrate proficiency with advanced medical systems, and be committed to delivering exceptional patient care throughout all phases of surgery. Knowledge of aseptic techniques, patient assessment, and critical care practices is essential, along with familiarity with EMR, preferably SIS. This position offers an opportunity to work in a teaching ambulatory surgery setting with exposure to diverse specialties including ophthalmology, urology, podiatry, plastics, GI, and more.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and sterile techniques are in place prior to procedures.
- Assist surgeons and surgical teams during procedures by providing instruments, suturing, and managing sterile fields.
- Monitor patient vital signs and assess patient condition continuously throughout perioperative phases.
- Administer medications, including injections and IV infusions, following strict protocols and safety standards.
- Manage airway and ventilator support as needed; handle emergent situations such as acute pain management or airway compromise.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately in medical records using EMR/EHR systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiology, radiology (e.g., CT imaging), and post-operative care units.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards and aseptic techniques to prevent infections.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding preoperative preparations and postoperative care instructions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with hospital standards such as NCQA or HIPAA regulations.
Experience
- Proven perioperative nursing experience in an OR setting with familiarity in surgical procedures across multiple specialties and/or in an ambulatory surgical setting.
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation related to surgical care.
- Experience with advanced EMR/EHR systems.
- Background working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory care), individuals with disabilities or developmental delays, hospice & palliative medicine patients, or those requiring complex acute pain management.
Pay: $36.00 - $45.00 per hour
