Role Description The Steel Detailer is a full-time, on-site role based in Waterbury, CT. This position is responsible for producing accurate shop drawings and steel detailing plans for highway, traffic, and bridge structures, working closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting architectural and structural drawings, developing detailed layouts for steel and rebar components, and ensuring all documents align with project specifications, codes, and DOT requirements. The Steel Detailer will coordinate with fabrication and shop personnel to resolve design questions, update drawings based on field or design changes, and help maintain quality and consistency across project documentation. The role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Steel Detailing and Steel Structures, with experience preparing fabrication-ready documents for infrastructure projects.
• Ability to interpret and create Shop Drawings that clearly communicate requirements to fabrication and field teams.
• Experience working with Rebar layouts and details for structural and bridge applications.
• Strong skills in reading and working from Architectural Drawings and structural plans.
• Hands-on experience with CAD or detailing software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla, SDS/2, or similar) for steel and rebar detailing.
• Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (AISC, AWS, DOT specifications) and their application in steel fabrication projects.
• Excellent analytical, math, and spatial visualization abilities, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with engineering, project management, and shop personnel.
• Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in structural detailing, drafting, civil/structural engineering, or a related field.
• Prior experience in a steel fabrication or bridge/highway infrastructure environment is preferred.
