Responsibilities

  • Assist dentists during clinical procedures by preparing instruments, materials, and patient records efficiently and accurately.
  • Perform chairside assisting with a focus on four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance workflow and patient comfort.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols are followed in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Manage patient intake by recording vital signs, medical history, and updating medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic.
  • Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, and proper handling of dental equipment and tools.
  • Support administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and assisting the dental receptionist with patient communication.
  • Conduct medical imaging procedures using advanced tools like 3D scanners when necessary for comprehensive diagnostics.
  • Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures by creating a friendly environment for young patients and understanding pediatric-specific dental needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations including HIPAA privacy rules and infection control guidelines.
  • Support the dental team by maintaining a clean, organized treatment area and preparing materials for various dental specialties such as prosthodontics or endodontics.
  • Monitor patient comfort throughout procedures by assisting with chair adjustments and providing reassurance as needed.

Experience
Candidates should possess prior experience working in a dental clinic environment, demonstrating proficiency in dental assisting tasks such as chairside assistance, X-ray taking, and sterilization techniques. Familiarity with EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is highly desirable to streamline patient documentation processes. Knowledge of medical terminology related to dentistry and general healthcare enhances communication within the team. Experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus for working effectively with young patients. A solid understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge related to oral structures, and proficiency in medical coding are essential for success in this role. Certification in radiography or dental assisting from accredited programs is preferred but not mandatory; however, ongoing professional development is encouraged to stay current with industry standards.
