Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 1. Graduate from high school or equivalent; 48 units of college level coursework; AA Degree or Certificate of Completion for NCLB requirements. 2. Ability to read, write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the assigned duties. 3. Ability to communicate with and effectively supervise students. 4. Ability to assist a diverse range of students in developing self-help and social skills. 5. Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with others. 6. Ability to understand and implement appropriate portions of the student’s Individualized Transition Plan (ITP). 7. Ability to use and identify indoor and outdoor recreational activities suitable for special needs students. Brief Description of Position: • Assist and train students in the maintenance of personal needs including feeding, combing hair and dressing appropriately. • Provide physical assistance to students who cannot care for themselves, including feeding, diapering, turning and physical movement. Assist students with personal hygiene; wash hands and faces; toilet students and change diapers and clothing as needed. • Prepare students for mainstreamed classes according to established procedures. • Provide instruction/assistance to severely handicapped students in social, self-help and community skills. • Assist students on and off the bus; push wheelchairs and lift students as needed. • Tutor individual or small groups of severely handicapped students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher; monitor and oversee student drills, practices and related activities. • Perform other related duties as assigned. • Other related duties as assigned.
