The Locator will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Locate and mark underground utilities including gas, water, electric, telecommunications, and sewer lines using specialized equipment.
- Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and drawings to accurately identify utility locations.
- Communicate with contractors, construction crews, and utility companies to coordinate locating activities.
- Maintain accurate records of utility locations and provide detailed reports.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations to prevent damage to utilities and ensure personal and team safety.
- Operate and maintain locating equipment such as electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar, and GPS devices.
- Respond promptly to locate requests and work efficiently to meet project deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of underground utility systems and construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
