Gribbins Insulation & Scaffolding is seeking a Project Accountant to manage the financial performance of construction projects from initial setup through closeout. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Operations Leadership, and Finance to ensure accurate job costing, timely billing, effective cost control, and compliance with contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and maintain project and contract values
- Track job costs, committed costs and forecast-to-complete
- Monitor cost overruns, underbilling/overbilling and margin performance
- Prepare and review monthly job cost reports and WIP schedules
- Review periodically billings (T&M, not to exceed, lump sum, etc.)
- Track retaining, change orders and contract modifications
- Manage revenue recognition using percentage-of-completion or other approved methods
- Review lien waivers for accuracy and compliance
- Ensure timely payment of vendors and subcontractors
- Contribute to monthly close and financial statement preparation
- Reconcile project accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Support external audits
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies
- Partner with Project Managers to review project financial performance
- Maintain all subcontractor documentation, including pre-qualifications, insurance certificates, contracts, and purchase orders.
- Provide financial insights to support decision making
- Communicate clearly with operations, vendors and internal stakeholders
- Prepare and file monthly, quarterly and annual sales and use tax returns across applicable jurisdictions
- Ensure proper tax treatment of construction contracts, materials and labor charges
- Track taxable vs non-taxable job costs and billings by state and locality
- Reconcile sales tax payable and accrued use tax to the general ledger
- Maintain exemption certificates and support sales tax audits and inquiries
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure correct tax application on invoices and contracts
- Monthly OCIP/CCIP reporting
- Quarterly National Account Maintenance reporting
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- 3-7 years of accounting experience (construction or project-based accounting preferred)
- Experience with job cost accounting and construction billing
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300, Procore or similar)
- Understanding of construction contracts, cost accounting and WIP reporting
- Experience with multi-state sales and use tax in construction environments preferred
- Familiarity with construction tax rules such as lump-sum vs time and materials contracts
- Experience responding to state tax notices or audits
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication with non-financial stakeholders
