Machinist – CNC Programmer/Operator (All Shifts Available)
Location: Toano, VA
Compensation: $30–$40/hour, depending on capability and programming proficiency
Shifts: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift openings
About the Role
Greystone is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist capable of programming and operating HAAS VF-3 and Fanuc Robodrill vertical machining centers. This role requires someone who can take a part from print to production with minimal oversight: program it, set it up, run it, inspect it, and keep the machines in peak operating condition.
You’ll work with titanium, plastics, aluminum, and steel across tight-tolerance, high-precision parts used in our core manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Programming & Setup
- Program CNC machines using G-code and CAD/CAM software
- Create toolpaths, select tooling, set work offsets, and verify programs prior to running
- Develop efficient machining strategies for titanium, aluminum, plastics, and steel
- Optimize feeds/speeds, reduce cycle time, and improve tool life
Machining & Operation
- Set up and operate HAAS VF-3 and Robodrill vertical machining centers
- Perform first-article and in-process inspections
- Maintain consistent quality across production runs
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to workholding, tools, or program errors
Maintenance & Reliability
- Conduct PM cycles on the machines, including lubrication, calibration checks, and mechanical inspections
- Maintain machine cleanliness and overall operating condition
- Assist in identifying and replacing worn or faulty components
Technical Support & Collaboration
- Work with engineering on manufacturability improvements
- Support fixture design and continuous improvement efforts
- Participate in tooling evaluations and process enhancements
Qualifications:
Required
- Proven experience programming and operating HAAS and/or Fanuc Robodrill CNC vertical mills
- Strong knowledge of G-code, CNC control interfaces, and CAM software
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Understanding of machining practices for titanium, aluminum, steel, and plastics
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot issues independently
Preferred
- Experience with high-precision parts and tight tolerances
- Understanding of GD&T
- Familiarity with tool presetters, indicators, micrometers, and other inspection equipment
- Experience with fixture design or basic CAD
